Trailer Tuesday: The Hobbit – An Unexpected Journey

bill bodkin and logan j. fowler go on an unexpected journey…

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks. I know I’m going to catch a lot of flack for this one, but I’m standing my ground; I’ve never been obsessed with or have even been a casual fan of these Lord of the Rings movies. Do I think they are well shot, are aesthetically pleasing, and have great acting? Absolutely. But in retrospect I find them extremely slow moving and just can’t get into them. I will bunker down in my house as I know that anyone who swears by these movies will find me an idiotic fool and egg my place of dwelling but there’s just some things I don’t mesh with and yeah, this is one of them. I have nothing but respect for the fans of the films and I hope The Hobbit is a dream come true for them, but needless to say I will be sitting this one out and that’s pretty much that. Go ahead Bill, attack me in your section of the column. I AWAIT THEE. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. The original Lord of the Rings saga are some of my all-time favorite movies. They were such awe-inspiring cinematic experiences — from the effects to the cinematography to the acting, I loved everything about these movies. And I didn’t even care about the never-ending finale of Return of the King. So, it should be no surprise that I will be at The Hobbit, most likely on opening night. However, I do have a few reservations — especially since they decided to make the film a three parter, that has me a bit concerned. Disregarding that, I’ve always enjoyed Peter Jackson’s work and Martin Freeman, to me, is one of the most underrated lead actors going today, so there’s a lot of good feelings going into this film. What also excites me is that the world of Middle Earth has been brought back to the big screen and I can sit back and lose myself in the magical romantic world of Tolkien as seen through the bespeckled of Jackson.

In regards to my colleagues comments, I don’t understand how you can just ‘sit this one out’ altogether. Such a cinematic spectacle like this has to tickle some sort of fancy. For a guy who claims to be the HGIC of this site (Head Geek in Charge), not enjoying LOTR baffles me. You can watch Ghostbusters and Back to the Future 7 million times, but The Hobbit is something you’ll just pass on? You’ll never cease to amaze me LJF.–BB
