A Special Trailer Tuesday: Iron Man 3

bill bodkin and logan j. fowler geek out…

Editor’s Note: We usually don’t do two Trailer Tuesdays in one day, but with the release of the new Iron Man 3 trailer which is blowing up all over the Internet, we knew we had to throw our two cents in.

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. Tony Stark (Robert Downey Jr.) has his work cut out for him, and I’m only slightly referring to the odds he’s facing in Iron Man 3. Following on the heels of The Avengers, the shell head has do everything in his power to capitalize on Marvel’s massive blockbuster hit. And by the looks of the trailer that hit for Iron Man’s third outing, it may not have the grand scope that Earth’s Mightiest did, but it sure looks like it’s going to try. The movie looks darker in tone, chock full of action, and raises some questions; How does Tony’s armor get copied and used against him? Which bad guy character send those copters to take out Stark’s pad? What does The Mandarin ( Ben Kingsley) have to do with all this? We’ll find out next May. And I’ll be there opening weekend to check it out for sure. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. Wow. As a massive fan of the first Iron Man and also someone who was let down by the sequel, I think the third Iron Man is going to be off the chain. Ben Kingsley as Mandarin — excellent casting. Kingsley knows how to play a cartoonish character with the same gravity and seriousness he would any of his more serious, dramatic roles. I think he’s going to make a fantastic foil for Downey’s smart-alecky Stark and much more formidable than Mickey Rourke’s Whiplash character from I2. Also, I think the scenes with Stark in doubt and fear of not being able to protect Pepper Potts is a great angle to work and will give this Iron Man the sincere human touch the first film did. What can I say, I’m a sucker for this superhero and will be lining up this summer to check this film out. –BB

  1. I think you guys hit all the best points! Can’t wait for this in the theater, might avoid future trailers so I can still go into the film with questions unasked. Glad to see two “theater” ratings!
